The Yard Sign That Grows Your Club: A Free Printable QR Sign for Member Haunts

One sheet of paper, pointed at your whole club

Every FrightMaps haunt club gets a free printable yard sign. It is letter size, it has your club's logo and a big scannable QR code, and it says the only thing it needs to say:

This haunt is a {Club} member. Scan to see all member haunts near you.

Stake it by the sidewalk. A visitor scans it, lands on your club's page, and sees every member haunt near them on the map. That is the whole trick, and it works while you are busy running your own haunt.

Getting it

Open your club's page on frightmaps.com/clubs and click Print a free yard sign for your haunt. That opens your club's sign, already built with your logo, your club name, and a QR code pointed at your club page. Nothing to design, nothing to fill in.

Hit Print / Save as PDF. The button opens your browser's own print dialog, so you can send it straight to a printer or choose "Save as PDF" and take the file to a print shop.

Printing it so the QR actually scans

• Print at 100%. Turn off "fit to page" or "shrink to fit" so the code keeps its edges crisp.
• Use the heaviest paper your printer will take, or have a shop run it on cardstock. Thin paper curls, and a curled QR is a QR that does not scan.
• Scan your own sign before you hang it. Phone out, six feet back, in the dark. If it reads in two seconds, you are done.

Mounting it so October does not eat it

Rain, dew, and fog juice all end paper careers fast. Two minutes of prep gets you through the season:

• Laminate it, or slide it into a sheet protector and tape the open edge shut. A laminating pouch from any office store is the difference between one week and ten.
• Glue or tape it to something rigid — foam board, corrugated plastic, a scrap of coroplast from an old political sign. Floppy signs look sad and blow flat.
• Zip-tie it to a wire lawn stake. Zip ties beat staples in wind, and they survive being yanked out and moved.
• Angle it slightly toward the sidewalk, not straight ahead. You are aiming at people walking past, not at the street.

Placing it where people actually stop

• Sidewalk edge, flashlight height. Roughly waist to chest on an adult, which is right at eye level for the kid holding the phone.
• Near where the line forms. People standing still scan things. People walking do not. Next to the candy bowl or at the mouth of your walkthrough is better than the far corner of the lawn.
• Out of your own lighting. Purple floods and strobes across a QR code make phones work harder than they will bother to. Keep it in plain, boring light.
• One per entrance. If people come at your yard from two directions, print two.

Why this works

The sign is not really advertising your haunt. Your haunt is right there, glowing, doing its own advertising. The sign advertises everyone else in the club.
